Uncle Rob

You were a giant to me.

From my youngest days to today. And now forever.

Whenever I see a lighthouse, I remember you because you showed me the first one I’d ever seen. Same with starfish. And sea urchins, and, and, and…OCEAN water is COLD! Having only been swimming the warm water of Deruyter Lake it was shocking but I soon was diving in the SEA collecting starfish! Our start together was a little rough – I was only 5 or 6 I think, on our family visit and I caught pneumonia and, I heard afterward, that it was a serious case – but, for me, it was like a whole ‘nother world. You put me up in a big bed that looked out over THE OCEAN!

We LOVED visiting our cousins and there was always some new adventure we would experience and never forget.

WAITES LANDING

Right on that beach in the background I remember Uncle Rob and my dad digging big holes in the beach and building fires in them only to put seaweed all over them. Then, of course, not long after we had a seafood feast!

On another visit Dave and I had an opportunity to do a little ocean fishing off that pier below us in the picture.

and my Dad caught a Sand Shark!

Family Get Togethers were classic.

We all have fantastic memories from Deruyter. And Rob always took photos that have become family icons.

Thank you, Uncle Rob, for the greatest memories!

Your entire family loved you!

Billy fell in the lake just before the photo. And I'm the only one with glasses!
